Executive Communications Manager, Emerging Technologies Group

We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Executive Communications Manager to lead the executive communications for the Senior Vice President of the Emerging Technologies Group (ETG). ETG focuses on creating solutions in new and adjacent markets built around advanced video, voice, and data communications.

Responsibilities:
-Designing and developing a communications strategy and an executive point of view for internal and external audiences.
-Developing and executing strategic communications and managing the operations and process for the organization.
-Drive creative, thought leadership messaging for new market adjacencies and priorities.
-Must develop strong partnerships within the organization as well as cross-functionally in order to develop content and messaging for key communication deliverables.
-Ensures overall communications strategy is successfully executed across multiple channels.
-Additional responsibilities include creating briefing materials, presentations, special writing assignments and special project and event assignments.

Skills Required:
-5 years + of experience in an Executive Communications role.
-Demonstrate strong leadership skills, executive influence skills and content development skills, with the ability to communicate details and share best practices both inside and outside the organization.
-Must be very detailed oriented and organized with the ability to work seamlessly within broader team to achieve desired results.
-Must have strong culture of teamwork and collaboration across the group and execute with timeliness and quality.
-Seen as someone who could provide positioning counsel as a subject matter expert.
-Must be able to extract salient information from multiple sources and synthesize information into presentations that are consistent with the approved communications strategies.
-Strong process and operational skills with the ability to prioritize and align to key business objectives.

Education:

Job Description:
Dynamic opportunity reporting to ETG Director, Business Incubation as a key member of the ETG staff. The BI manager works closely with ETG’s business unit teams and adjacent initiatives (e.g., Emerging Solutions Council) to lead the development and refinement of cross-functional business frameworks. Drives adoption of best practices in product, go-to-market, and business growth strategies and plans

Functional Requirements & Skills:
• Works closely with ETG Director, Business Incubation to develop and refine business frameworks, capture and promote best practices, and assist emerging business units through incubation and growth stages
• Leads and facilitates teams of cross-functional directors and executives. Develops agendas, drafts and develop frameworks, helps teams develop market entry and growth strategies and plans, follows up on actions.
• Identifies and executes specific projects -- develops content to drive cross-functional alignment and establish best practices
• Influences, coordinates and negotiates among several cross-functional teams – across ETG and outside the organization
• Provides ongoing advice to ETG business units and partner organizations (e.g., sales, marketing, services, channels, etc.) with particular emphasis on go-to-market strategy and business growth
• Develops and refines frameworks for business unit and financial portfolio management
• Shares best practices across the BUs and other cross-functional team representatives to help accelerate BU growth and assist BUs to achieve their market objectives

Experience and Qualifications:
• The ideal candidate has both business and technical background, and experience in developing and refining cross-functional business and governance frameworks and driving organizational change initiatives
• A strong interest in launching and growing successful new startup businesses.
• Prior experience as a proven strategy and business consultant to executives or as a product manager, investment banker, venture capitalist is required.
• Able to deal with ambiguity, limited information, and manage multiple projects and achieve successful results. Requires combination of strong collaboration and influence skills, and comfort in working across all functional groups and organizational levels
• At least 8 years of relevant industry experience with entrepreneurial ventures. Experience in identifying, researching, developing, and launching new product and business ideas – preferably in startups, but also in developing brand new markets and products in an existing organization. Proven ability to analyze market opportunities and develop go-to-market strategies and plans.
• Good business judgment, market research, financial modeling and analytical skills. Familiar with business models and value chains
• Able to build strong relationships with all levels and functions at Cisco and throughout the value chain, and work collaboratively to achieve goals.
• A self-motivated, entrepreneurial, results-oriented professional with proven execution abilities in a collaborative setting. Strong bias towards action; able to move quickly, decisively and bring other team members along with them.
• Strong presentation, facilitation, and persuasion skills are a must. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Effectively manages multiple complex projects and priorities simultaneously.
• Passionate, driven, tenacious and personable. Straight-shooter.

The GTM manager partners closely with ETG’s business unit teams to lead the incubation of new business units, develop product and go-to-market strategies, facilitates cross-functional teams (Tiger Teams) to involve other Cisco functions (services, channels, sales, etc.) to help rapidly achieve market relevance.

The manager will directly program manage and facilitate several Tiger Teams -- in addition the manager will guide and assist new Business Units in performing in-depth market and product validation, refining their product and GTM strategies, and developing plans to acquire reference accounts and scale the business.

Functional Requirements & Skills:
• Works closely with ETG Director, Business Incubation to assist emerging business units through incubation and growth stages leveraging best practices, incubation frameworks and processes.
• Leads and facilitates teams of cross-functional directors and executives. Develops agendas, helps teams develop strategy and planning documents, follows up on actions. Identifies and executes specific projects -- develops content when needed to augment BU team resources
• Influences, coordinates and negotiates within several cross-functional teams – across and outside the organization
• Provides ongoing advice to new Business Units, with particular emphasis on go-to-market strategy.
• Shares best practices across the BUs and other cross-functional team representatives to help accelerate and assist BUs to achieve their market objectives
• Helps prepare Go-to-Market, product, channel, services, sales plans for existing ETG BUs as they advance through all the incubation stages.

As a Development Test Technical Lead. You will create, define and implement test systems and infrastructure to verify and assure the roll-out of high-quality products for Smart Grid, one of Cisco’s key initiatives.

Job Responsibilities:
- Develop test strategies and test plans to ensure software features and hardware platforms meet product requirements.
- Design test bed topology to verify features meet quality requirements.
- Evaluate and recommend new test tools.
- Write simulation tools when necessary
- Collaborate with different technology groups to ensure proper testing of our products.
- Establish a test automation environment by writing new scripts or leveraging scripts from other teams and extending them to cover utility specific scenarios and algorithms.
- Using excellent people and coordination skills you will be working with a variety of cross functional teams to accomplish the goal of bringing Cisco’s testing strength in routing and switching into the Smart Grid market.
- Work closely with the development team to identify test scope and coverage for both our products as well as for the overall end to end system.

Requirements:
- MSEE/CS combined with 7+ years of related experience, or BSEE/CS combined with 10+ yrs related experience.
- Strong networking platform test experience in Serial, 3G, wireless and other networking interfaces.
- Experience with testing PLC (Power Line Communication) and mesh technology is a plus.
- Have good working knowledge of how networking products are deployed in customer networks.
- Highly desirable skills include testing scada application for utility market.
- Hands-on experience in scripting and automation with TCL, Perl, Shell scripts and/or GUI-based automation tools.
- Experience with white box testing, Linux application testing.
- Must have experience with developing test strategies and test plans.
- Must have strong Linux and debugging capability.
- Ability to create and setup complex test scenarios.
- Hands-on familiarity with test instruments required. Ixia and/or Spirent experience is desirable.
- Excellent communication and people skills with demonstrated ability to work across different groups to propose common solutions.
- CCIE Certification is highly desirable.
