EXCITING NEW Opportunities! Speech to Speech Software Development Engineers

This is a new area for Cisco, if you are an experienced Speech to Speech and Text to Speech professional, you have the opportunity to make a significant impact on a new initiative for our Cisco Pulse product group. This position will be responsible for prototype, evaluation and build for the software.

NCBU (now MXABU) has been in business for 2 years in Cisco’s Emerging Technologies Business Group that is developing an innovative set of Web 2.0 applications that will change the way we work and learn. We seeks a Senior Software Developer to design and build a Web 2.0 Platform which utilizes network intelligence to facilitate
collaboration.

Responsibilities:
The qualified candidate would work on all aspects of inline speech to speech translation starting with speech to text transcription working on all aspects of core statistical language modeling for a variety of specialized and general domains, as well as formatting, grapheme to phoneme conversion, and various other natural language processing tasks.

Your responsibilities will include conducting research towards improving speech-to-document transcription accuracy by focusing on document formatting and text processing algorithms and correction-based learning for post processing of speech recognizer output.

Provide technical leadership in research projects as well as contribute individually
Provide experimental and theoretical analysis of speech recognition problems
Formulate new algorithms, create research tools, design and carry out experiments to verify new algorithms

Work with other members in the team to improve the performance of product and add new product features to meet business requirements

Optimize accuracy of our speech recognition applications

Follow developments in speech recognition to keep our research work state-of-the-art
Patent new algorithms and write scientific papers when appropriate


Qualifications:
An advanced degree (PhD preferred but not mandatory) in speech recognition, computational linguistics, or a related field.

A background in speech, mathematics, computer science, and NLP/computational linguistics is highly desirable.

You should have strong communications skills and be able to work collaboratively with others on the team and elsewhere within the company.

Strong software skills are required, especially UNIX/Linux, C/C++, and a scripting language such as Perl or Python.

Experience in a large collaborative working environment is helpful (e.g. version control, distributed computing).

Explicit (industry or academic) experience with language modeling / NLP for transcription or search is a plus.

Applicants with a speech recognition background and experience in managing research projects are preferred
