Opportunity Snapshot

This is a Software Development, Assistant Manager opportunity assisting manager of global growing software development group with approximately 30 developers and testers. The group develops and maintains several different types of software components for the provisioning of consumer devices: embedded client, heartbeat server, backend workflow engines, UIs with several plug-ins, command-line tools, configuration of ACS (Automated Configuration Servers), and base operating system configuration. Technologies include core Java, Groovy, JavaScript, C, TR-069 protocol, and Unix shell scripts.

The successful candidate:
- Has deep background in software development, and is interested to apply this experience in the direction of managing software teams.
- Lead teams through full lifecycle of software development, from requirements to deployment.
- Has a configuration management mindset: everything must be repeatable, and simplified or automated to reduce human error.
- Uses broad knowledge of technical system applications to ensure quality, robustness, and performance of software components.
- Supports and upholds existing processes, and make continuous improvements to those processes.
- Facilitates further adoption of Scrum and Agile processes. Is zealous about Test-first paradigm.
- Has ability and motivation to communicate across global teams in wide range of time zones, using variety of techniques: email, documents, diagrams, wiki, etc.
- Mentors team members.
- Is a team player with excellent communications skills (both verbal and written)

Required Experience:
5+ years technical lead role where responsibilities included code reviews
5+ years software development with backend and UI development exposure
1+ years Scrum or Agile development process (Scrum Master experience a plus)
3+ years Unix / Unix command-line / Unix system administration. (Solaris and/or Redhat Linux a plus)
2+ years core Java ( JavaScript knowledge preferred)
2+ years C
3+ years Source code repository or similar tool. (Subversion a plus)
3+ years Defect tracking or similar tool. (HP Quality Center a plus)
Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)

Exposure to these areas is a plus:
ACS - Access Control Systems. Cisco Broadband Access Center (BAC)
IP networking
TR-069 Protocol
Unix shell scripts
wiki

Education: BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent
Travel: ability to travel up to 10%
