Hardware Engineer, Sustaining Lead

We have a current opening for a Hardware Sustaining Engineering Lead to work in the TelePresence System Business Unit (TSBU) of our Emerging Technologies Group - ETG.

TelePresence is a virtual presence experience that uses advanced visual, audio, and interactive technologies to create an in person experience at a virtual conference table. TelePresence is one of the more recent examples of how Cisco is changing the way we work, live, play, and learn.

The successful candidate will be responsible for hardware sustaining related activities of TelePresence products, from development hand-over to end of product life. This is a lead position and the candidate will be required to provide day to day technical leadership and guidance to other sustaining engineers assigned to the project. Additionally, the candidate is required to work closely with various engineering (hardware, software, mechanical, compliance) and manufacturing groups to sustain the product.

Responsibilities include:

* Determine root cause and drive the corrective actions for in-field failures. Provide feedback information to New Product and Platform teams so as to design out the potential failure modes
* Provide engineering support to manufacturing teams in order to improve yield, test time, costs and also new source component introduction when required
* Coordinate and perform development activities to develop product variants from existing devices in support of product roadmaps, in conjunction with marketing and program management
* Ensure that solid engineering rigor is being applied (and continually improved) to the product in all areas including modifications, hardware validation, defect management, root cause analysis, release checklists, change control, etc.
* Establish specifications and procedures for Electrical Design Validation Testing. Execution of system measurement tests and EDVT tests. Root cause analysis of issues and problems identified in test processes.
* Be part of cost reduction initiatives
* Interface with third party vendors and suppliers as needed
* Provide technical leadership to other system engineers
* Responsible for various hardware subsystems as needed
* HW defect management and tracking.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

* BS degree is required, preferable in electrical or computer science engineering
* 7 or more years of related work experience, preferably in the sustaining, development or manufacturing of video end points
* Experience with logic analyzers, oscilloscopes and various test and measurement equipment is required
* Experience with board level design, schematic capture and printed circuit design.
* Should have excellent debugging skills, “fire fighting” and prompt resolution of field failures
* Experience with design and debug for EMC, ESD, signal integrity and power decoupling issues.
* Strong interpersonal, communication (both written and verbal) and leadership skills are required
* Ability to work in a fast paced, innovative environment
* Wide range of technology knowledge and interests
* Experience working with cross functional teams such as mechanical design, manufacturing engineering and compliance engineering.
* The candidate must be a team player
* Ideally would have design knowledge in the areas of video and audio technology, cameras, displays and PCB design
